Why composer browsing matters

Once you start tracing themes back to their writers, recurring connections jump out. Mike Post wrote the music for half of 1980s prime-time American television; Henry Mancini stretched from feature-film comedy through pop instrumentals; John Williams reshaped what a film fanfare could sound like in 1977 and again every few years thereafter; Hoyt Curtin was responsible for almost every Hanna-Barbera cartoon theme of the 1960s and 1970s; Lalo Schifrin made 5/4 jazz-rock thrillers feel inevitable for spy television. Browsing by composer is the fastest path from "I love this theme" to "what else did this writer do?"

It's also the best way to understand how working screen composers actually built their careers. Most of the writers indexed here did not work in only one medium. They moved between feature film and prime-time television, between dramatic scoring and comedy themes, between orchestral writing and synthesizer programming, often in the same year. The composer pages collect every catalogued cue we have of each writer's work, with biographical and stylistic context that helps you trace the through-line.
