About the Schindler's List Main Theme

A solo-violin lament performed by Itzhak Perlman, recorded in Boston in 1993. Williams told Spielberg he was uncertain he could write a score worthy of the picture; Spielberg replied that all the better composers were dead. The cue's slow, modal violin line became one of the most-recognized solo-instrument film themes of the late 20th century and the score won the 1993 Academy Award for Best Original Score.
